Sri Lankan government removes duty imposed on items brought by migrant workers

The Sri Lankan government has decided to completely remove the duty imposed on nine items being brought into the country by Sri Lankan migrant workers. The decision has been taken as a benefit to the migrant workers and in order to receive the benefit they need to be employed overseas at a least a year.
Deputy Customs Director, Parakrama Basnayake told state-run TV that the Customs has decided to give more benefits to the Sri Lankans who are returning after working in overseas. He said that they can bring a bathroom set, a bedroom suite and a motorcycle below the capacity of 350 CC, tax free. They will also be able to bring solar panels, computers, laptops and two mobile phones. The migrant workers can also purchase television sets less than 55 inches duty free.
